| | A
spectacular 19th century Hayagriva in militant pose with six-arms and eight legs.
Superbly sculpted lost wax cast with hand-chased details, fire gilded figure with
cold gold on the three faces of Hayagriva, the “Horse-Necked One”, the fierce
form of the compassionate Avalokiteshvara. His three heads are crowned with skulls,
above which the red hair rises against a flaming mandorla. Hayagriva wears a belt
strung with freshly severed heads, a lion skin loincloth with the head attached,
snake belts and bone beads, chopper and dorji in hands, beneath his eight feet
are poisonous snakes, representing the eight kleshas (negative emotions). The
guardian king is standing in pratyalida posture characteristic of wrathful deities,
striking atop a beaded
lotus throne; highly detailed and meticulously finished.
