Seated
in full lotus, holding an elaborate kalasha and wearing a high coiffure with elaborate
jewelry. The Amitaus Buddha figure is still wrapped in yellow silk cloth, and
is sealed a with a double vajra engraved on a copper plate .The statue has been
consecrated with a ritual blessing, and believed to be containing the actual presence
of the deity, the dharmakaya, or Truth Body of the Buddha.
Collected
in Tibet in 1912 by D. MacDonald Esq. Then given to Colonel Grant Gordon and passed
by descent in that family.
