A
fine bronze with deeply carved surface in floral, foliate and geometric designs
depicting Akshobhya Buddha, the Imperturbable Buddha of the East who represents
the primordial cosmic element of consciousness, in meditative equipoise and bhumisparsa
mudra on a double lotus base. His vajra symbolizes enlightenment, the essence
of Reality. Associated with the color blue and the syllable HUM, he is the essence
of the infinite pristine awareness of the Mind of Bliss.
The
beautifully sculpted robes combine with a rich dark allover patina and austere
design to capture the dignity and unshakable equipoise of Akshobhya. The statue
bears a double vajra inscribed on the bottom, indicating its use as a object of
worship; such inscriptions were made after calling the deity into the statue,
perhaps inserting written prayers or relics, after which it was sealed.
