Tibetan Fruit Wood Buddha Statue Avalokiteshvara
Quanyin in Meditation Gesture Origin:
China. Circa: early 1900S'
H 9.5 in.(23cm), W 5.25 in.(13cm), D 4.5 in.(11.5cm)
Condition: very good! Avolokiteshvara,
the Buddha of compassion is central to practice throughout Tibet, China, Japan
and Korea. The essence of this deity is the vow to remain here until all beings
have obtained illumination and awakening. Avolokiteshvara although often depicted
as male can take a female form as in the deity's emanation as Quan Yin. This
beautiful hard wood statue evokes the deity's quintessence. Luscious lotuses wrap
around Avalokiteshvara hands. The countenance reflects the peace and stillness
from which deep creation and evolution is born. Seated in a lotus asana, feet
face upward in full lotus meditation position. He sits upon a lotus pedestal with
distinct petals. Why not be reminded of that which we truly are when boddhicitta
fully flowers. (SD)
