Throughout Asia the elephant conveys majesty good fortune and is considered a primary source from which all good things grow and flourish. This antique Chinese ivory carving from the early 1900s is vivid with life and energy. The swing of the tail, the movement of the ears, the curl of trunk is lively. The grain of the ivory of this statue is superb glistened at a wonderful polish it shines through. Hold this piece in your hands and you will feel the vibrancy of living material, the innate gravitas. A beautiful tribute to this magnificent creature this is an excellent find from an era gone by. The statue is in overall very good condition.
