A
solid bronze cast of the Hindu god of strength and power, Huanuman; the monkey
god stands holding the Dronagiri Mountain in his right hand. As the story goes,
Huanuman was fighting for his beloved Rama, when Rama’s brother was injured. Huanuman
quickly sprinted off towards the Dronagiri in search of an herb that would restore
the brother’s health. Unable to find the herb, and running out of time, the deity
lifted the entire mountain and brought it back to the battle field, so that those
who knew what to look for could find the herbal medicine.
Gilded with gold over a deep brown patina, the monkey god imposes but in
a protective manner. In his large left hand he carries his characteristic mace,
etched with decoration and slung across his shoulder. A decorated dhoti rests
upon his head while his hair, said to be a mane like ashoka flowers flows onto
his back. A long and slender tail ascends the vertical plane of muscular contour,
curving around and into a comfortable position. In excellent condition.
