A
classic and spirited South Indian bronze depicting Krishna playing his flute.
Worn by time but replete with details in the towering headdress with two tendrils
falling to either side and a sun disk behind his head, the figure is adorned with
pleated dhoti, crown, earrings, necklaces, armbands, bracelets, anklets and jeweled
girdle, standing upon a double lotus base on a lotus plinth. Color is gleaming
bronze with deep golden patina and black oxidation.
Despite
his romantic escapades, Krishna’s faithful consort is Radha; their devotion symbolizes
the ideal relationship of love between the soul and God.
