Okimono
of a sensitively realized naked beauty reclining on
a mat that resembles a banana leaf. Her body is leaning
slightly toward her right, as one hand is placed between
her head and the pillow, the other gently touch her
chin.
This
beautifully carved figure is likely from the late 19th
to early 20th century. The ivory has beautiful patina
varying from a cream white to a tint of yellow. Although
she is finely detailed with flowers around her hair
and pillow, naturally, the focus is inclined more toward
the warm glow of sensuality that shines through her
ivory body.
Please
note that the fan handle of this carving has broken
off, and there is a tight hair line to the right of
her body. Nevertheless, the overall figure remains in
excellent condition; and her charm intact.
