Crack lines, overall in very good condition Carved
in the Meiji Restoration period, this exquisite netsuke depicting a young child
holding a pair of new clogs, while the father looks on with a wine gourd, and
a sake cup in hand. Such subject matters echos an emphasis on peace and prosperity
in peasant life of the period. The facial expressions of the father and son are
filled with tenderness. The
sculptural compositions of these figures are remarkably complex, with intricately
carved through angles and rounded contours, meticulously scrimshawed motifs in
contrast to ample of white and gold tone in the naturally aged material, which
bearing a lavishing mirror-finish despite the passing of a century.
