Antique
Japanese Okimono Netsuke Onnanoko/Girl
with Broken Basket and Lantern
Signature: Unsigned, Edo, 19th Century
H. 2 in.(5cm), W. 0.75 in.(2cm), D. 1.25
in.(3cm) Condition: excellent! A
tiny and well-carved okimono of netsuke size, lightly stained in aged warm creamy
aji, a classic representation of a young girl wearily returning home late with
a lantern held in one hand, and on her back an empty basket, which is now broken.
In conjuction to the intricately carved-through basket, wrapping the figure is
a finely decorated kimono that seemed to sway in the evening wind. Though marred
by a few chips, it remains a rare gem for aficionados.
