Female
deities with lotus emblems are often identified as QuanYin
or Tara; but the simplicity in this Chinese ivory carving
of a girl in peasant clothes, her right hand holding a half
blossomed lotus flower, and left hand in a commanding gesture,
indicates that her name is Hu Hsien Ku, the Protector of
Family and Home, one of the Eight Taoist Immortals.
Standing
at 6" tall, this medium size statue is carved from a single
ivory tusk. It appears to be 50-75 years of age, with no
damage or crack lines, and is in perfect condition.
