classic Quanyin figure shown seated in the posture of royal ease, holding in her
right hand the flaming pearl, the crystallization of the light of transcendent
wisdom, with the left hand held in vitarka mudra, a gesture of teaching associated
with Amitabha Buddha, of whom she is an emanation. She is adorned with necklace
and bracelets; her eyes cast down as she searches for suffering sentient beings
to aid them. Well carved, highlighting the ample figure and fine quality of the
material, and set into a carved fruitwood lotus throne base.
