Meditation Qing Dynasty, circa:
19th century H
6.75 in.(17cm), W 2.25 in.(6cm), D 2 in.(5cm)
Condition: very good This
19th century Chinese Kuan Yin bronze is most unusual in its form and depiction.
Hevily cast, well weighted with naturally aged patina. This feminine Buddha fits
gracefully into the palm of the hand. Her robes beautifully rendered, flow into
the ocean cloud mountain that is her pedestal. The goddess is poised in graceful
contemplation a pause between the breathes of life. For it is Kuan Yin, who is
considered the essence of compassion and feminine grace. Call to her and she will
answer your supplications with swiftness. Most often depicted in feminine form,
Kuan Yin is an emanation of Avolokiteshvara, the Tibetan bodhisattva of deep compassion.
This bronze is an intimate statue. With power and grace she can be known in many
ways indeed. (SD)
