Kwanyin Buddha

This heavily cast antique Chinese Bronze Buddha statue portrays Kwan Yin in a deeply compassionate maternal form: She is the mother and peaceful protector who is here for all beings. The goddesses’ hair is finally detailed. Gracefully swept up into an elegant chignon it is set with an simple floral crown. The bodhisattva’s hands are in the mudra of teaching: her peace and poise communicate compassion and well-being. Her countenance has the classic elegance and fullness of prosperity that is trademark of Chinese depictions of this bodhisattva. Her earlobes, particularly elongated and plump are in balance with her human maternal features. She wears an elegant jeweled necklace and robes that sumptuously grace her body. Kwan Yin is the feminine aspect of Avolokiteshvara, “she who hears the cries of the world”. This late 19th century bronze is a particularly inspiring version of this beloved bodhisattva.
