Antique
Bronze Ming Style Buddha Shakyamuni, the historic Buddha at the moment of his
enlightenment, in which he called the earth to witness his illumination.
The
Buddha is seated in meditation posture adorned in simple robes and with right
hand in the earth-pointing, or bhumisparsa, mudra. On his upturned left palm and
the bottoms of his feet are engraved chakras. The expression with engraved pupils
is serene. Although simple in its conception the work is subtly realized, as in
the delicate fingertips, each gracefully modeled. The bronze surface is frosted
with an unsurpassed patina of variegated mineral colors ranging from green to
ochre and gold. The overall impression is one of unshakeable equipoise.
