Condition: excellent! This
20th century ivory okimono is Jurojin, one of the Seven Gods of Luck, wearing
the robes of a scholar, also called the Star God of Longevity, who is widely worshipped
for his role in administering the span of life on earth, and is the patron of
scholarly success. The legendary deity stands with his staff and fan, and is meticulously
scrimshawed with various motifs. The ivory is cream colored with striations and
markings, white pigment is used for the long beard, while the engravings are delicately
tinted in red, green, black and brown.
