Condition: excellent! A
scaled, torrential swirling dragon in dynamic movement amongst flocking clouds,
deeply released in this newer ivory manju netsuke. The artist conjures this magical
creature with considerable expressive detail that beckons multiple depth of forms
reveal over time. On the flip side of the manju is a pristinely rendered Wheel
of Dharma, one of the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism. The eight spokes,
depicted like petals, are set in a frame of classical billowing clouds. The spokes
of the wheel open to reveal the netsuke’s hollow interior. Light to the touch
but substantial in the artistic expression of symbolic dynamism.
