This
enchanting Tara, with lissome form and the sweet face of a
Tibetan girl, radiates compassion and mercy within a scrolling,
curvilinear design. She is seated in full lotus position,
with eyes on her forehead and feet to aid her in searching
out all beings in need. The mudra of her right hand symbolizes
wisdom; the left hand is held in the mudra of blessing and
good fortune. She is flanked by large open lotuses with curving
leaves and flowing scarves and is seated upon a lotus throne.
Her hair is coiled into a high chignon, with two ornamented
locks falling in front, surmounted by an elaborate jeweled
crown. She wears jeweled earrings, necklaces, armbands and
anklets.
Much
of the original polychrome surface is intact, revealing shades
of red, green and gold leaf, recalling the her glorious original
appearance.
