This is a beautiful rendering of this much beloved deity. This antique polychrome gilt camphor wood deity exudes a sense of use and worship. Here, Kuan Yin the feminine expression of Avolokiteshvara sits on a dragon throne; on her right side is a falcon and on her left the Vase of Immortal Nectar. This statue would have been at the center of a household shrine or home temple. Hundreds maybe thousands of hours of incense and prayers would have been offered, day in and day out. The countenance of the deity evokes peace, compassion and power: The power of peace that can be a deep source of nourishment in the flow of our day-to-day lives. The statue is in excellent condition. There are the marks of usage and time but this adds to the depth of this classic powerful deity of beauty and grace. (SD)
