carved shrine statue in honor of the Celestial Mother, polychromed in red, black,
blue and green. Seated figure in courtly robes and coiffure with painted features
and red lips, her robes embellished with a scrolled pattern applied in paste form,
with much of the gilding intact. A sense of benevolent austerity graces the figure,
the profile expressing dignity and uprightness.
