The
first notable feature of this stolid little figure is the rich coloration of dark
bronze with intense green oxidation covering the work with an overall green-black
finish, with encrustations of brilliant malachite in the creases and on the back
of the figure. The goddess stands on a double lotus throne, which is inscribed
at each of the four corners with designs of lotus flowers. Her figure is stocky
and compact with enormous doe eyes and pleasing proportions. She is adorned with
earrings, necklaces, armbands, and anklets. A fine cord stands out across her
breasts. Her beautiful gathered dhoti is rich with folds and tassels, secured
by an ornamented girdle, and her long hair falls down her back in a thick braid.
A large jewel is fastened to her nose. In her right hand she holds up a prayer
wheel. | |
