This superb copper gilt bronze Akshobhya is a devotional yidam of distinct integrity and beauty. The Unshakable Buddha is seated upright in full lotus posture on a lotus throne. His left hand rested in a meditation position. His right hand is pointing downward, calling the earth to witness in the Bhumisparsa Mudra. The Wisdom Buddha’s face is that of a handsome youth, snail-curl hair piled in a tall chignon, dressed in a shoulder garment around a bared torso. The statue is an excellent example of the unsurpassed artistry of Tibetan Buddhist sculpture. True to the style of Gautama Buddha’s Kasaya monk robe composed of discarded fabrics, represented here with finesse in hot metal silver repousse overlay, hand traced into a diagonal woven lattice pattern, with eight intricate auspicious symbols illuminating the quiet elegance throughout the front and back. The pedestal embossed with elaborate foliate motifs on eleven upturning lotus petals. Two engraved stags are flanking a flaming wisdom pearl around the backside. Which is an auspicious symbol implies that all spiritual obstacles subside and good fortune has arrived! Brilliantly cast with traces of malachite from centuries past. Aside from missing a couple of silver filigree, the statue is in fair to good condition.
