Vajradhara
is the primordial Buddha from which all other Buddhas are born. The deity transmits
total communion with the infinite and is often depicted in a dark midnight blue
color. He is considered the metaphysical equivalent to Samantabhadra.
In
this exquisite 19th century Tibetan antique bronze rendition, the deity Vajradhara
holds the vajra in his right hand and the bell in his left. His hands are crossed
gracefully at the wrists, a gesture symbolizing the diamond HUM: the union of
the compassion and wisdom necessary to reach enlightenment.
The
Buddha’s majestic diadem, armbands, additional body ornaments and wraps are gorgeously
detailed and move gracefully with the contours of the body. The deity’s gestures
are powerful, yet subtle. The gaze on the Buddha’s face with the distinguished
third eye reveals lucid awareness a compliment to this statue’s human vitality.
In excellent condition except for a minor crack on the ushina this is an exceptional
find. (SD)
