-DEACCESSION-
This
small yet complex netsuke is nothing short of a showpiece. The carving is both
intricate, virile and moreover an one-of-a-kind original design. Though that the
material appears to be carved from bone, the interlaced rounded edges suggested
that the netsuke is possibly made of stag antler. With two formal himotoshi on
the base, there are also multiple openings which the cord may pass through. As
in the Comprehensive Study Based On The MT Hindson Collection by Neil Davey,
there are seven netsuke carvers listed as Gyokuzan. Hence according to its style
and composition and aged patina, we can only tentatively attributed the netsuke
to the late 19th or
early 20th century. Please note that we offer no explicit guarantee for the applicable
material other than an opinion on the age and excellent condition of this carving.
