aged Chinese carving in cream colored ivory, depicting a warrior attired in court
regalia with long inner garment and felted boots, neatly carved in Ming style,
with flowing coat descending to fluttering sleeves, his headdress a courtly version
of a bronze warrior‘s helmet. Sword in hand and firmly poised, he casts an appraising
eye as he strokes his long beard, presenting himself as he would have appeared
off the field when reporting to the Emperor. Upright and evenly balanced, the
symmetrical design and sturdy proportions contribute to a sense of strength and
stability.
