Kannon in bronze, a very old statue with a rich surface texture and patina of
great age; heavy mineral deposits and encrustations of a deep green color. The
style and proportions point to an earlier date, possibly much older than the Edo
period assessment, however this is difficult to substantiate without a photoluminescence
test of the core. Nevertheless, stylistically and by its surface appearance quite
an old piece, the simple form of the gentle Goddess holding a wisdom pearl and
backed by a pierced mandorla is appealing in its archaic purity.
