There is a classic intricacy, a detail of style in this Chinese Polychrome Wood Buddha Statue from the early 20th century. The detail is especially compelling in the intricacy of the nimbus: florals and flames fuse to reveal the lucid power, resonant, beauty and presence of the moment a young prince name Siddhartha became awakened. Part of his deep realization is that within every human being there is boddhicitta the seed of enlightenment: As one so many. This Shakyamuni, holds a medicine bowl filled with the nectar of rejuvenation, the knowledge of our immortal essence that which sustains beyond and within all changes. Thus Buddha’s right hand is in the mudra of teaching and transmission. It is said that to sit in the presence of a Buddha that much is revealed just in the silence. This statue embodies this essence with a classic design and a particular historic gravitas. It is in very good condition except for a minor crack. (SD)
