The name Bixie is translated as "Repelling Evil." They were the most common lion-like chimera guardians in temples and homes throughout China. This small nephrite jade toggle was likely a gift for a child. Beautifully hand-carved in even cream white with a tinge of celadon color, the toggle is highly polished with an unctuous usage sheen. Characterized with bulging eyes and horns, the Bixie is intricately modeled with extended ribbons around a stack of sutras on the upper arch of its back. With a three-pointed tail in a swing curl behind its body, it features multiple carved-throughs for cord-holes. It feels light and tactile in hands, giving this Bixie a sweet demeanor with great charms as a perfect fitting pendant or toggle.
