Rendered with elegance in the Ming style, simple but stylized contour imbue the Zen Master with a commanding and spiritual presence, somehow earthy yet extended into the ethereal dimension. Expertly carved from a beautiful piece of teak wood; the face of the master appears to be in deep contemplation, high cheek bones accentuate his smile, downward cast eyes carved in depth right down to the pupils. The snail curved hair of his beard and eyebrows indicate his Indian origins. Though the piece does show some minor cracks in the wood due to its age, it is otherwise an attractive figure in very good condition.
