Kongo
means Thunderbolt, and Rikishi means Might One. This large Kongo Rikishi Temple
Guardian mask is radiating with power of the protective deity. The mask is hand
carved from quality Japanese cypress, with distinctive wavy wood grains billowing
from center outward, creating a visual perception of advancing force, capable
of staring down and subduing demons and enemies of the Dharma. The carving is
lively, dynamic and thoroughly spirited. The large size made it an impressive
wall-hanging for doorway or centerpiece in the main room.
