Buddha
Decending
from Pure Land Showa
Period. Circa: 1950s and earlier H 12.5 in.(31cm), W 4.25 in.(11cm), D
2.75 in.(7cm) Minor
loss, overall very good condition A
radiant wash of gold illumines this stately Amida, the Buddha of Infinite Light
of Jodo Shu. He is standing serenely on a stratum pedestal over a half-opened
lotus, parallel arcs of falling garment flowing with a billowing rhythm, jeweled
with two semi-precious stones of utmost finesse, the face of Amida Buddha is delicately
youthful, curving lips and arching brows outlining two downcast eyes that are
made of extraordinarily small glass inlays, framing the figure is a large nimbus
that compliments the imperturbable essence. The hollow core statue is exceedingly
light, including the wood pedestal and nimbus, it weighs only eight ounces. Other
than a small loss of a drop leaf in the mid pedestal, the statue is overall in
very good condition.
