Taisho Period, Circa: 1912-26
H 12 in.(30cm), W 6 in.(15cm), D 4 in.(10cm)
Condition : minor abrasions, overall very good!
Hands
joined in the dhyani concentration mudra, seated upon a double-lotus cushion over
a lotiform pedestal detailed with renditions of floral motifs, and enveloping
the Buddha in the center is a cloud-patterned curved-leaf nimbus, forming a lacquered
and gilded heavenly throne, including the lotus pedestal was
carved from a single solid piece of Japanese cypress. A
striking contrast to the natural wood figure in rich black, the color of which
indicated the spiritual power of this Amida Buddha.
Through this contrariety in features, it appears that the essence of the Buddha
is advocated with a subtle earthy countenance.
