This highly collectible Murashido gilt bronze vase is bulbous in shape with a short neck and flared rim. It is ornamented with chiseled Katakiribori details, gilded with a damascening inlay of gold and silver over a splattered two-tone gold ground, beautifully depicting a starling bird resting on a bamboo stalk, surrounded by seven Kiku flowers (chrysanthemums)- which is Japan's national flower and symbolizes longevity and wealth. The Japanese monarchy is referred to as the Chrysanthemum Throne, and the imperial crest is a stylized mum blossom — Scripted kanji in a rectangular reserve on the base: 真峰 Shintaka. The opulence and intricacy of the vase made it a centerpiece fit for every home and office.
