Medicine Buddha
Private Collection

A Medicine Buddha sculpted in traditional Tibetan sacred geometries, with superb artistry cast in heavy bronze and gilded in gold. This statue reveals its exquisite details and perfect symmetrical form. The Bhaisajyaguru sits in a serene lotus position, draped in a flowing monk robe adorned with hand-traced motifs. His left hand holds a medicine bowl filled with the healing elixir that transforms all ills. In his right, the Buddha has the myrobalan plant held in two figures. With his youthful face delicately painted in cold gold, his eyes downcast, emanating serene contentment and spiritual energy.

Bhaisajyaguru, the "Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light," transforms the roots of our inner afflictions—attachment, hatred, ignorance, and pride—offering a holistic view of health. Following the bodhisattva ideal, healing oneself extends to transforming the world about us. The Medicine Buddha is esteemed in Tibet, China, Korea, and Japan. For deeper insights, the 17th-century "Blue Beryl Treatise" (The Four Tantras of Tibetan Medicine) outlines a comprehensive approach to medicine. Including knowledge of physical anatomy, energy bodies (through nadis and chakras), herbal medicine, and embryology, all of which are integrated with the influence of karmic evolution on our health.
