Sino
Tibetan Gilt Bronze Buddha Statue Avalokiteshvara
In Charity Mudra
Origin: China. Circa: early 20th Century H
14 in.(35.5cm), W 7 in.(17.8cm), D 4 in.(10cm)
Condition: excellent! Avolokiteshvara’s
presence has brought deep peace and has been an ongoing source of answered supplications
for followers of Buddhism throughout Asia. This 19th century Sino-Tibetan Bronze
is a beautiful rendition of this essential bodhisattva. The countenance on the
deity is resonant with peace. The eyes that gaze softly down in lucid concentration
almost perfectly align with the graceful mudra of the left hand that bestows wisdom
and holds the arching stem of a lotus. Here, Avolokiteshvara is indeed graced
with two lotuses, one on either side. The bodhisattva’s headdress is majestically
rendered and contains a sitting statue of Amithaba, Buddha of Infinite Light.
The ornamentation (earrings bangles and belts are) beautifully rendered and symmetrically
placed on the body. This bronze is in excellent condition except for minor oxidation
that marks the passage of time. (SD)
