solid bronze, highly expressive and detailed, age patina with cupriferous green
mineral deposits on dark brown finish, celebrating the fruitfulness of teamwork
in overcoming defects and achieving success. Ashinaga and Tenaga are famous friends
in Japanese folklore, one with short arms and long legs, the other with short
legs and long arms, who, by joining together, never lacked for sustenance. In
this finely carved bronze the expression is ebullient, with lively characterization
and spiraling hair lines, firmly made hands and feet and a flowing bow at the
front of Ashinaga’s garment.
