A drum-shaped pedestal on five flaring stilts engraved with dense ornamentations. Above which a ferocious Guardian kneeling on one knee holding up a large censer, a slightly tilted incense burner with a pair of rabbit ear handles, and fitted with a lid of a protruding dragon over lettuce of rolling cloud. The powerful Nio is well cast. With bulging eyes and opened mouth baring tongue and teeth, the miniature figure's facial expression is realistic, poignant, and dynamic. The censer is bearing a smoky dark bronze patina. Well used with some crusted over and residues of ashes on the inside. Etched around the bowl are reliefs of archaic designs of the ring of fire, taotie masks, and repeated cicadas motifs representing life, death, and rebirth. It is an intriguing masterpiece in excellent condition.
